Get to know the region

Montaione and surrounding area

Tenuta delle Rose lies about two-and-a-half kilometres to the north of Montaione, a picturesque locality with around 4,000 residents where items of everyday use are available. Two large supermarkets and lots of smaller shops sell a huge assortment of regional produce from which you can conjure up your own delicious Tuscan meal.

Anyone who enjoys being spoilt has come to exactly the right region: countless restaurants, both local and in the vicinity, ranging from the traditional trattoria to award-winning eateries, look forward to welcoming you. In the heart of Tuscany

Its central location within the Florence-Siena-Pisa triangle makes our estate the ideal starting point for excursions not only to these famous cities, but also to lesser known treasures in this wonderful cultivated landscape. We will be happy to provide you with tips and information.

Experience Tuscany

We can arrange horse riding or riding lessons, a tennis court and bicycle hire for you on request. The renowned and beautiful Golf Club of Castelfalfi golf course is only around 25 kilometres from the Tenuta, whilst anyone hoping for some pampering can chill out at Terme delle Via Francigena. Teatro del Silenzio

In 2006 the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli opened his “Teatro del Silenzio” in Lajatico, a small town a good 30 kilometres from “Tenuta delle Rose”. The name translates as “Theatre of Silence” as music can only be heard there once a year – it is silent for the rest of the year.

In summer 2020 it is possible to see Bocelli on July 22 and 24. However, it’s still worth paying a visit to this impressive open-air amphitheatre on other days of the year.

Eroica – 29 May 22

The heroes of the highways will be on the road during the first weekend of October. The “Eroica” is an historic cycle race: the participants set off on old bicycles that are wonderful to watch. The lap times are not important, but the stopovers – with traditional Tuscan refreshments of course – are great. It starts in the marketplace of the little Chianti village of Gaiole.

Palio del Papero di Balconevisi

Heading somewhat further west, a second, quite different palio takes place every year on second sunday in October: Residents in the little town of Balconevisi hold a goose race.
